At the University of Virginia (UVA), pediatric endotracheal intubation training involves residents repeatedly forcing a breathing tube down the throats of kittens and adult cats. This causes tracheal bruising, bleeding, scarring, severe pain, and permanent injury. But the anatomical differences between these animals and humans render this type of training ineffective.

Every year tens of thousands of primates are transported by air around the world for the international research industry. Some are trapped in the wild while others are bred in captivity usually in large-scale facilities. They are ripped from their family groups, packed into small wooden crates and travel as cargo, predominantly on passenger air flights, on extremely long journeys to research laboratories around the world.
